Senior Software Engineer, Computer Vision
Athletically LLC · Austin, TX · May telecommute from the continental U.S.
Design, build, and maintain distributed, multi-tenant backend services and APIs (TypeScript/Node) and the underlying data models supporting users, teams, seasons, schedules, scores, standings, statistics, and usage tracking for a unified platform for league operations, automated video, and sensor-ready telemetry for modern sports organizations.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement computer vision and machine learning workflows for video and imagery, including training/inference pipelines for object/feature detection and multi-object tracking.
- Design how video and other media attach to game records; build and operate production pipelines for capture, ingest, transcoding, storage, and playback on AWS. Integrate GNSS and IMU sensors and develop sensor ingestion, time-synchronization, calibration, and sensor-processing/sensor-fusion pipelines; align telemetry with games and video to generate actionable metrics (for example, participation, speed, distance, and heat maps).
- Own CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and observability (metrics, logs, traces) for core services; implement practical security and privacy controls, including per-tenant isolation and encryption in transit and at rest; monitor and improve critical operational paths (authentication, scheduling, score entry, standings, usage accounting).
- Collaborate with product leadership to translate requirements into technical designs and shipped features; contribute to code reviews, documentation, internal knowledge sharing; support pilot deployments and customer-facing activities, including occasional on-site or live-remote support for key events.
- Conduct applied R&D in video automation, AI/ML, computer vision, and telemetry; prototype, evaluate, and document new approaches and help prioritize which outcomes advance to the product roadmap or limited pilots.
Minimum requirements
- Master's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field, or foreign equivalent.
- At least two years of previous experience as a Software Engineer.
- The required experience must include: (i) developing computer vision and machine learning workflows for video and imagery, including object/feature detection and tracking; and (ii) integrating GNSS and IMU sensors and building sensor-processing/sensor-fusion pipelines.
